About Poochee Care
- Introduction -
Poochee Care was established in 2018
We set up Poochee Care because we had experienced, first hand, how difficult it is to find a trustworthy and caring place to look after our dog. We wanted to create a dog boarding experience that allows owners to enjoy their holiday and not worry about their pets. We wanted to create an environment where we would be happy leaving our own pets.
What is ethical dog care?
It means providing for a dog’s physical, emotional, and mental needs. This includes providing a safe and comfortable environment, to live in and away from home, providing appropriate nutrition, exercise, grooming, and veterinary care. It especially means making sure that your dog has plenty of attention and affection. Ethical care is about treating your dog with respect, understanding its needs, and providing training and socialisation.
What should you look for in a dog boarder?
- If a home boarder doesn’t want to meet you and your dog before boarding, ask yourself: Why?
- All Boarders should arrange a settling in period with you. Being left in an unfamiliar place with strangers and other dogs is very stressful for your dog. They don’t understand why they are there, and you can’t explain it to them.
- You should be able to see an up-to-date licence clearly displayed.
- Records should be kept on your dog and vaccinations checked. So, if paperwork isn’t prepared with you there to answer question, alarm bells should sound.
- There should be a separate area for each dog, or family group to be kept in.
- Ask about cleaning materials. Are they DEFRA approved? If they are it will be clearly marked as safe to sue with animals.
